Those familiar stains on our coffee tables are always the same shape. What makes them a ring instead of a circle or random blob? In society at large, evolution is a controversial topic, but even within the scientific community, controversies rage on. Today we’ll talk with Dr. Kara Maki, an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the Rochester Institute of Technology. She’ll explain to us the physics of coffee rings. In the second half of our show we’ll talk about gravitational waves, and how they might be detected.

What a wonderful topic!
Damn, now I feel sad that we don’t have gravitational astronomy yet. Sounds like we would be able to find really cool stuff with it!
