In 1905, Albert Einstein proposed that the laws of physics are the same for all non-accelerating observers, and that the speed of light in a vacuum was independent of the motion of all observers. This was the theory of special relativity.

May 29, 1919: A Major Eclipse, Relatively Speaking. 1919: During a total solar eclipse, Sir Arthur Eddington performs the first experimental test of Albert Einstein’s general theory of relativity

So, Einstein’s theory was apparently without value from 1905 until 1919.
How sad for him.
