Is there any evidence for the existence of dark matter and dark energy or are these still in the stage of being hypotheses? If the former, does the evidence depend on the assumption of the correctness of Big bang theory? Is there still a possibility of some other model of the universe (like steady state or something else) being confirmed by future evidence or has the cosmic microwave background radiation provided the clinching evidence for Big bang theory?
