Thanks for explaining it. Among other things, it comes back to the rate at which gravitational interactions propagate, and it adds to the incentive to find ways to confirm it.

Now, with the black holes themselves, there must be some threshold mass above which a black hole was not made by a single event. Not knowing any better, I’d say a black hole exceeding 1000 solar masses probably didn’t result from a single event, but grew by merger or other means. Are you aware of any data that refine that?
