I’ve often wondered if photovoltaic panels, at least those here on Earth, only use a limited part of the electromagnetic spectrum? I mean electromagnetic waves either filtered from the rest by our atmosphere and magnetic field, or if they have filtered through, not utilized anyway in the production of electricity by panels. If so could these panels be engineered to make electricity in combination with alternative conflated frequencies of the spectrum, say where these are available as on the surface of Mars or in outer space? We’d get more electricity produced from the same area if it were possible.

Perhaps we could use laminations with different absorption properties to be set up in order relative to the consecutive depths that the more powerful to the less powerful radiant energies can penetrate through? On the other hand, we could possibly use some other method like intertwining different materials at a micro scale but forming the one surface composite?
